Duets of modern songs were more common in 30s

Watta song ! Till now I thought the Banaste Dakila Gaja to be traditional folk song, so the lyricist is Radharaman Ray. Very few knows that he is also the music director of 1st Odia talkie Sita Bibaha (1936). His name is not even mentioned in record n not got his due recognition

Radharaman Ray was a versatile artiste who had prolific recordings across genres and labels ranging from Champu, Folk Songs, Movie Songs to Modern Songs. He was a writer, director, actor, singer, composer ...rolled into one...picture of Radharaman Ray...courtesy @SuryadeoSurya
The first publishing on the theme of Raja was by Radharaman Ray, released around 1955 on Senola label...''Raja Doli''. The link to the songs...https://t.co/4Wuftls1BF,

That’s a nice find. Kinnear’Book on Gramophone Company Recording..lists his recordings in 1906. Columbia merged with Gramophone Co in 1931...they had extensive Odia recordings... but haven’t come across Gokul Srichandan’s... will surely look..the catalogue though do not mention. https://t.co/h7NPTT9Zdl

@odiamelody An article by Dr. Kalipad Das (Mangalabag, Cuttack) in the magazine 'Pratibha', 1994. It has been mentioned that Gokul Srichandan had recorded ଖ ଚମ୍ପୂ - ଖେଳାଲୋଳାଖଞ୍ଜନାକ୍ଷି କି ସାହସ କଲୁରେ, ଖରାପ ତୁ ହେଲୁରେ under Columbia records sometime before 1934. https://t.co/bU1U1s3gOm

Rare : Bhikari Bal sings 'Netrananda Pasara', a chaupadi by Kisora Chandra Rajendra Deba, 19th-century ruler of Chikiti, Ganjam. Enormously popular in the 1900s, this was one of the first Odia songs to be recorded— by Kumudini Debi in 1909. @odiamelody https://t.co/X1nQNFhzfS

Yes... I have heard this announcement of the singers in the recordings in the early years... mostly in the first decade of 1900s... in Odia... we have some recordings ... where the singer announce their name... one such is in the recording of 1909 recording of Lokenath Kanungo..
One of the earliest Odia recordings...’Kaha Sakhi Mo Shyama Lagi..’ Odissi Chaupadi.. sung by Lokenath Kanungo.. written by Rajkishore..recorded by George Walter Dilnutt on 20th Sept 1909 at Calcutta..released in July 1910... from more than a century old 78 RPM record.. https://t.co/dpAFn5Qs8l

While the first two decades of Odia Recordings saw traditional songs... duets of modern songs were more common in 30s... with variety of artistes...this one recorded around 1938.. ‘Golapa Para E Phuti Go..’sung by Pratima Mitra and Sukumar Sahu.. from the vintage 78 RPM record. https://t.co/V2bY4IPfJs

Taj Record was a low-priced sister label of Hindustan Records and the bulk of its release were qawwali ensembles , bengali and odia releases. Not much is available on the dates of issue of its series .HRT series started in 1938 and continued upto mid 50s ..maybe in this period...

Suryamoni Dei and Tofabala were the elite female artistes of 30s
and 40s who brought in modern and folk songs in their repertoire... ‘Mora Manta Kenta Kenta Karsi..’by Suryamoni Dei(1940)... written and composed by Kartick Ghosh... from eight decade old 78 RPM record... https://t.co/qa83T4CFyu

This was apparently released in 1941. May be 1940. @odiamelody https://t.co/u5uEoZ80oq

This is an advertisement in a magazine called Odisha, published from Kolkata for just one year, in 1941. That explains my guess about the timing.
