Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja was born in 1670(opinions differ between 1670 and 1688) at a small village Kulada near Ghumusara town of Odisha. Born in a royal family, Upendra Bhanja had never eyed for throne.

His grandfather King Dhananjaya Bhanja wrote "Raghunath Bilash" and "Ratna Manjari". His father King Nilakantha Bhanja ruled the princely state but unlike them, he preferred his entire life to poetry rather than to ruling over a kingdom.
Upendra Bhanja wrote in the last decade of seventeenth and the early decades of eighteenth century and championed a style of poetry called ‘ Reeti’ in Sanskrit
poetics. Though many poets in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries wrote in reeti style.
He contributed more than 35,000 words in various poets and kavyas for the Odia language and literature. He used separate distinguishable style of writing in his poets and kavyas.

But according to Australian researcher Michael Kinnear, Hemendra Mohan Bose of Kolkata had recorded Odia artistes on cylinder well before that

The behela or violin entered Odissi music only about 120 years ago, owing to the rather conservative approach, mostly an attempt to preserve traditional things as they were. Pt. Bhubaneswar Mishra is the reason for its frequent usage these days.

I have been fortunate to gather some information about early Odissi musicians from various sources. Gundi Nanda & Lakhmana Nanda of the Khandapada court were famous for Behela, apart from being vocalists. The Sitar was also catching up, but it had a jump start of a few decades.
As for Baleswara and that part, the great Jagabandhu Sahu of Chandrakatabindha was renowned for his prowess on the violin. Many students learned from that Acharya.
Speaking of Ganjam, Nilamani Bebartta of Paralakhemundi was well-known in the 1930s. Half a century before him was Durga Gopi Dasa, who played the violin in the first Prahallada Nataka troupe. Its usage has vanished from Rajanata afterwards.

"These types of original paintings are not even found in the temples of Odisha."—  that's a plain lie. Plenty of temples and mathas across Odisha contain vast murals. The Srikurmam murals are also made in the Pattachitra style. There's a wonderful Jagannatha mural too. :)

Gangamata Matha, Bada Odia Matha, Dharakote, Digapahandi, Paralakhemundi, Buguda and many more sites all have fantastic murals— in the very same charateristic Pattachitra style, of course.

Odia script in a nutshell

Abstract: The topic paleography of Odisha is more valuable,
apprehended in the widespread framework of Indian
paleography. Obliviously for the sake of ambidextrous culture
atmosphere of Indian civility. But variety of scripts in India is one
and only a posterior advancement. Though entire territorial
scripts used present day, as has been generally accepted, are
developed out of an initially similar script, i.e. the brahmi script.
The script was approximately used in a larger part of India under
the mauryas rule (3rd century B.C) and is presently endorsed as
the originator of all the provincial scripts of India. The calligraphy
transmutation comes to a destination in various rotating periods
through the era. In this paper I have discussed the origin and
development of odia script.
Keywords: Paleography, Ambidextrous culture, Territorial
script.

1. Introduction
Odisha was never a consistent section perpetually of her by
gone history. It was colonized by the peoples of kalinga, odra,
Tosali, Kongoda, Kosala, Trikalinga, Utkala etc… 
Even though the political barriers of these kingdoms and
territories vacillated from time to time. According to the
competence of the ruling empires, the terrain of their centre’s
and their partial allocations abided particularly unaltered from
the 4th-5th to 11th-12th Centuries.

2. Conclusion
This paper presented on overview on the origin and
development of Odia script.
