RIP. She was the daughter of Tabla maestro Pandit Khetramohan Kar and was the first cousin of Prafulla Kar.
She is not the first Odia female singer in Akashvani though. She may be the first for AIR Cuttack probably. Many, including Sumati Devi, used to sing for AIR Kolkata
Like Hindi films, there were booklet on newly released record songs of Odia films too. Printed at Cuttack by publishers like Odisha Kohinoor Press, the printed rate of the booklet during 1970s were of avg Rs1.50 to 1.60. The booklet had selective songs from 12-15 films of a year.
Thanks for the additional information on Gouranga Chandra Das... he was a regular performer both at AIR, Calcutta and Cuttack till 1956... taught music to students of music institutions at Soro .. and Bharat Sevanidhi at Maitapur ..in his later years..till his demise in 1983...
The childhood memory of running commentary in Odia of a football match in Barabati Stadium broadcast by AIR Cuttack is unforgettable. Odia speaking skill was just superb.

To sing for AIR was the biggest recognition those days. #Sajaphula- Radio’s musical spl that’s still running was considered to be an iconic show. As we going to record Sajaphula Oct’19, happy to reveal my co-singer was born the same year I cleared my AIR audition
My mom was one of the first singers to have recorded Sajaphula at AIR Cuttack. And to my good luck, I had the opportunity to meet all the legendary singers who were her contemporary and Sajaphula co singers. Nostalgia..
Got to know that this was a part of Cuttack Sajaphula programme. Legendary Bhikari Bal was also a part of the same edition and it was recorded in 1978

ଇଂରେଜ ମାନେ ଜମି ଦେଲେ କିନ୍ତୁ ଆଜିଯାଏ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ସବୁ ଜାଗାରେ ଜମେଇକି ବସି ପାରିଲା ନାହିଁ। ବରଂ ଦିନକୁଦିନ ବଂଧନ ହୁଗୁଳା ହବାରେ ଲାଗିଛି। Odisha is perhaps the first linguistic State and it was created before the Democracy arrived. So no Democracy or plurality when it comes to the question of language.

ଅନ୍ୟ ଭାଷାଭାଷୀ ମାନେ ପଶି ଆସିବା ଫଳରେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷାର ଗାରିମା ଆଉ ବଞ୍ଚିବ କେମିତି? So, there has to be some amount of coercion for preservation of Odia as a language and a script.
ସମଗ୍ର ଉତ୍ତର ଭାରତରେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଏକମାତ୍ର Classical language ବୋଲି କେତେଜଣ ଜାଣିଛନ୍ତି? ଓଡ଼ିଶା ପାଇଁ କେତେବଡ ଗର୍ବର ବିଷୟ ଅଥଚ ଅନ୍ୟ ଭାଷାମାନେ ଗାଦୀମାଡି ବସିଛନ୍ତି। Odia must get its rightful place in the national scene. It should be declared as the link language and its script become an additional one.
