ଖାଲି ଡଙ୍ଗା ଭସେଇ ଦେଲେ ଦାୟିତ୍ୱ ସରିଗଲାନି

ଆଜି ଯେଉଁ ପିଲାମାନେ ଜନ୍ମ ହେଲେ ସେମାନେ ତାଙ୍କର ଅଜାଣତରେ ଦେଶର ସମ୍ବିଧାନ ଓ ଅନ୍ୟାନ୍ୟ ଆଇନ୍‌ କାନୁନ୍‌ ର ଅନ୍ତର୍ଭୁକ୍ତ ହୋଇଗଲେ । ତା ସହିତ ଜାତି ଓ ଧର୍ମ ସମ୍ପର୍କୀୟ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ପ୍ରକାରର କାଇଦା କଟକଣାର ମଧ୍ୟ ଅଧୀନ ବୋଲି ଧରି ନିଆଗଲା । ଏହା ବ୍ୟତୀତ ପରମ୍ପରାର ବିଭିନ୍ନ କଥା ଓ କିମ୍ବଦନ୍ତୀଙ୍କୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ବହନ କରିବାର ଦାୟିତ୍ୱ ଆସିଗଲା ।

୧୯୦୫ରେ ଲର୍ଡ କର୍ଜନ ପ୍ରଶାସନିକ ଆବଶ୍ୟକତା ଦୃଷ୍ଟିରୁ ପ୍ରଦେଶକୁ ଦୁଇଭାଗ କରିଥିଲେ ଯାହା ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ଏକ ବିରାଟ ଅନ୍ଦୋଳନ ଛିଡା ହୋଇଗଲା । ଆଜିବି ଭାରତର ସ୍ଥିତି ପ୍ରାୟ ସେଇ ପ୍ରକାର | କଳିଙ୍ଗ ଯେ କାହିଁକି ବାହାରର କାହାର ଶାସନାଧୀନ ହୋଇ ରହିବ ତା ବିବେଚନା କରିବାର ଯଥେଷ୍ଟ ପ୍ରୟୋଜନ । ନହେଲେ ଏ ଜାତିର ଅଭ୍ୟୁତ୍ଥାନର ସମ୍ଭାବନା କ୍ଷୀଣ ।

ଭାଷାଟିକୁ ବଞ୍ଚେଇବାକୁ ହେଲେ ସୀମାନ୍ତର ସ୍ୱାୟତ୍ତତା ତଥା ସାର୍ବଭୌମତାର ଆବଶ୍ୟକତା ଅନିର୍ବାର୍ଯ୍ୟ । ତେଣୁ ଖାଲି ଡଙ୍ଗା ଭସେଇ ଦେଲେ ଦାୟିତ୍ୱ ସରିଗଲା ବୋଲି ଭାବିବା ଭୁଲ । ପଞ୍ଜାବୀ ବା ଗୁଜୁରାଟୀଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ବେଶି ଭରସା ନକରି ନିଜ ଗୋଡ଼ରେ ଛିଡା ହେବାର ସାହାସ ଓ ଅନ୍ୟଭାଷାର ବ୍ୟକ୍ତି ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଲୋକକୁ ପ୍ରାଧାନ୍ୟ ଦେଲେ ପାଲି ବଦଳିବ

କୌଣସି ଅଣଓଡ଼ିଆ ନେତା ବା ଦଳର ଦାସତ୍ୱ ନକରି ରାଜନୈତିକ ସମର୍ଥନ ମାଗିବାରେ ମୁଁ ପ୍ରଥମ । ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଯଦି ଏହାର ମହତ୍ତ୍ୱ ବୁଝିବେ ଓ ଦାସ ପ୍ରଥାର ବିରୋଧ କରିବେ ତାହେଲେ ଗୋଟିଏ ଦିନରେ ସବୁକିଛିର ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନ ହୋଇଯିବ । ଭାଷାର ସ୍ଥିତି ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ଯେଉଁ ଅବସ୍ଥାରେ ପହଞ୍ଚିଛି ସେଥିରେ ସର୍ଜେରୀ ଅବଶ୍ୟମ୍ଭାବୀ । ~ତୁଷାରନାଥ ମହାପାତ୍ର

ନଈକୂଳେ ନେଉଳଛୁଆଟିକୁ ତାମା' କହୁଛି ଭଲକରି ଦୌଡାଦୌଡି କରି ଖେଳେ ମଣିଷମାନେ ଆସିଲେ ଆଉକ'ଣ ଯାଗାମିଳିବ? ଛୁଆ ପଚାରିଲା ମଣିଷମାନେ କିଭଳିଆ କେତେବଡ଼? ମା'କହିଲା ତାଙ୍କର ଦିଟାଗୋଡ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ବହୁତବଡ । ଛୁଆ ଯାହାବାଗୋଟାଏ ଧାରଣାକଲା । କରୋନାପରେ ସେଠି ଯେତେବେଳେ ଭିଡଜମିଲା ନେଉଳଛୁଆ ଦେଖି ଅବାକ୍ ହେଲା । ଆମପାଇଁ ଭବିଷ୍ୟତ ସେମିତି ହୋଇପାରେ

ଉଠ କଙ୍କାଳ, ଛିଡ଼ୁ ଶୃଙ୍ଖଳ ଠାରୁ ଖଣ୍ଡି ଯେ ଖଣ୍ଡି ତୋର ପିଞ୍ଜରା କାଠି; ଥକା ମନ ଏହି ଅଳି, ଜଗତେ କେବଳ ଜନେ ହସିବେ ଏହି ତହୁଁ ଫଳ । ଓଲଟ ବୃକ୍ଷେ ଖେଳୁଛି ଲୋଟଣୀ ପାରା, ତେଣେ ଯମୁନା ବହୁଛି ଉଜାଣି; ବୋହୁ ଚାଲି ନ ଜାଣଇ ଲୋ, ଏତ କଳିକାଳ ରିତୀ ବିପରୀତ ଭାଇରେ । ମଲ୍ଲି ଢପ ଲୋ, ତୁଛାକୁ ମହୁ, ଗୁଡ଼ ପଡ଼ିଲେ, ପାନ କହୁଛି ମୋ ଜାତି ଯାଉଚି ।

ଯୋଉଠି ରସଗୋଲା ଛେନାଗଜା କାରବାର ସେଠି ଗରମ୍ ମୁଢିକୁ ପଚାରେକିଏ? ହେଲେ ତଳବରଡା ଖସୁଚିି, ଉପରବରଡା ହସୁଚି; ମଝିବରଡା ଥାଇ କହୁଚି ମୋବେଳକାଳ ଆସୁଚି । ଯେଝାହାତରେ ଯିଏ ଚଉଦପା ତେଣୁ ଆଲୋସଖି ଆପଣାମହତ ଆପେରଖି । ତଥାପି କୁଣିଆଘର ଆସି ଗୋରୁଖୁଣ୍ଟ ଗଣିବାର ଯୋଉଖୋଇନା ! ଷାଠିଏମହଣ ଘିଅହବନା ରାଧାନାଚିବ । ଶୁଆକହେ ସାରୀଲୋ ପୃଥୀ କ୍ଷଣକ୍ଷଣକେଆନ

ହେଲେ କ'ଣ ପଢିବା?

କେହିବି ଏଠି କଲେଜରେ ଦର୍ଶନ ପଢିନାହାନ୍ତି କିନ୍ତୁ ଜୀବନକୁ ବୁଝିବାକୁହେଲେ ଦର୍ଶନ ସହ ପରିଚୟ ଜରୁରୀ । ହେରାକ୍ଲିଟସ୍‌ଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଆରମ୍ଭ କରାଯାଉ। ସେ କହିଲେ ଯେ ତୁମେ ଗୋଟିଏ ନଦୀଭିତରେ ଦୁଇଥର ପ୍ରବେଶ କରିପାରିବ ନାହିଁ। ପାଣି ବୋହିଯାଇ ନୂଆ ପାଣି ଆସିଯାଇଥିବ ତେଣୁ ତାକୁ ସେଇ ନଈ ବୋଲି କହିହେବନି। ଶିଖିବା କଥା ହେଲା ସମୟର ନଈ ବହି ଚାଲିଛି।

ରୋଲାଣ୍ଡ ବର୍ଥଙ୍କର ରଚନାକର୍ତ୍ତାଙ୍କ ମୃତ୍ୟୁ ଏକ ପ୍ରସିଦ୍ଧ ପୁସ୍ତକ । ଲେଖା ସରିଲାପରେ ଲେଖକଙ୍କ ବିଶେଷକିଛି ଭୂମିକାନାହିଁ ବୋଲି ତାଙ୍କମତ କାରଣ ପାଠକମାନେହିଁ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ପ୍ରକାରର ଅର୍ଥ ନିରୁପଣକରନ୍ତି ତଥା ଅଲଗା ଅଲଗା ଶିକ୍ଷା ବା ପ୍ରେରଣା ଗ୍ରହଣକରନ୍ତି । ତେଣୁ କୌଣସିଲେଖାର ଗୋଟିଏ ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟଅର୍ଥ ନିର୍ଦ୍ଧାରଣ କରାଯାଇପାରିବ ନାହିଁ

ହେଗେଲ୍ ଙ୍କୁ ନେଇ ତ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ପ୍ରକାରର ମତବାଦ କିନ୍ତୁ ନିକଟରେ ଭକ୍ତି ମାଧବ ପୁରି ଙ୍କ ଲିଖିତ ପୁସ୍ତକ ଆଇଡଲସ୍ ଅଫ ଦ ମାଇଣ୍ଡ ବିଜ୍ଞାନ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ସ୍ଵର ଉତ୍ତୋଳନ କରିଛି। କେତେଦୂର ତାଙ୍କ ଯୁକ୍ତିସବୁ ଗ୍ରହଣୀୟ ତା ଅବଶ୍ୟ ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ପାଠକର ଦୃଷ୍ଟିକୋଣ ଉପରେ ନିର୍ଭର କରିବ କିନ୍ତୁ ଏକ ବିକଳ୍ପ ଚିନ୍ତାଧାରା ଭାବରେ ବହିଟି ସ୍ୱାଗତଯୋଗ୍ୟ ।

ହଁ, ଯେତେବେଳେ ହେଗେଲ୍ ଙ୍କ କଥା ପଡ଼ିଛି, ଆକାଶ ସିଂହ ରାଠୋର ଓ ରିମିନା ମହାପାତ୍ରଙ୍କ ଲିଖିତ ପୁସ୍ତକ ହେଗେଲ୍ସ ଇଣ୍ଡିଆ ବିଶେଷ ମହତ୍ତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ। ହେଗେଲଙ୍କ ଦର୍ଶନ ପଛରେ ଭାରତର ଅନୁପ୍ରେରଣା ଥାଇପାରେ ବୋଲି ଇଙ୍ଗିତକୁ ଏ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଯଥାର୍ଥ ଆତିଥ୍ୟ ମିଳିନାହିଁ । ତେଣୁ ଦର୍ଶନ ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଉପଯୁକ୍ତ ବୈଶ୍ୱୀକରଣର ଆବଶ୍ୟକତା ରହିଛି।

ମାର୍କ୍ସଙ୍କ ଯୋଗୁ ହେଗେଲ୍ ଙ୍କୁ ତ ପ୍ରାୟ ସମସ୍ତେ ଜାଣିଥିଲେ କିନ୍ତୁ ତାଙ୍କ ସାଙ୍ଗ ତଥା ପ୍ରେରକ ଶେଲିଙ୍ଗ୍ ଙ୍କୁ ଅନେକେ ଭୁଲିଯାଇଥିଲେ । ବିଶ୍ଵବିଦ୍ୟାଳୟର ଚାରିକାଛ ଭିତରୁ ଦର୍ଶନଶାସ୍ତକୁ ବାହାରକୁ ଆଣିବାରେ କେନ୍ ୱିଲ୍‌ବର ଙ୍କ ଅବଦାନ ଅତୁଳନୀୟ । ପ୍ରାଚ୍ୟ ଓ ପାଶ୍ଚାତ୍ୟର ଏକ ସଫଳ ସାକ୍ଷାତକାର ମଧ୍ୟ ତାଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟସ୍ଥତାରେ ସମ୍ଭବ ହେଲା।

I have fond memories of watching the young and ebullient @RajatKar_Odisha speaking at #BhanjaJayanti on several occasions in the sixties. Many of his contemporaries got influenced by Sri Aurobindo but somehow he stuck to his original love even to this day.

Sure and that's a great journey indeed but despite all your effort and enthusiasm, it hasn't paid off adequately. I mean, though great, Bhanja has been difficult to understand for people and remained distant. The same can be said about most repertoire of Odissi music as a whole.

Exactly. Kavichandra, Sinhari, Balakrushna Dash...All had significant interactions with Hindustani. In turn, he and other Ganjam singers were 'accused' of being influenced by Carnatic. Both the accusations were 10-20% true but for an argument, people exaggerate.

I say true because for language, music and culture it is impossible not to remain isolated from each other completely. That is true for Hindustani and Carnatic as well.
Good point. Many of the newer compositions, songs of Balakrushna Dash written by Kavichandra are hybrid. Many refuse to call it Odissi, just as Khyal singers dub thumri as light classical. Start with the popular, Bitilata jamini...and observe the impact
That is there in Hindustani too. Same is true in language too. 

As far as classical status is concerned, only the basis of deciding that will be technical. Advantages that will accrue are mostly material: promotion, learning/teaching, more people outside getting interested etc

Then she remembered something that goes ରାଧାକାନ୍ତ... This evening I realised that this was Basudeb Mahapatra's ରାଧାକାନ୍ତ ରାଧାମୋହନ ହେ ଗୋବିନ୍ଦ ଲବେ ଦୟା ନାହିଁକି, one of the earliest Odia songs recorded on Gramophone. This was recorded in 1909 but released only in 1916.

A name such as “Odissi”(Oriúî) 2—a term used to describe certain cultural practices (especially music and dance) from the Indian state of Odisha (formerly Orissa)—appears to require only the briefest of explanations. In a literal sense it means merely “produced in or relating to Odisha.” And yet this name, like many, has a complex history of usage and interpretation. It was selected from among alternatives and perpetuated (and continues to be perpetuated) by particular people for particular purposes; which is to say it represents the site of an ongoing political process.
Cultural traditions need not be named. When they are, this fact alone is worthy of scrutiny, for everything that bears a name was once named. 3 To name is to position a thing, to place it within a wider world of discourse, to attempt to fix some idea of it. Names are relational; when we need to differentiate one object from another we name it differently. Different parameters of a culture—different culture-specific realms of human thought and activity—may be privileged as lenses through which to view relationality. The relative weight given to various parameters may change over time and new parameters may arise; when this occurs, our conception of an object changes, and this may in some cases necessitate a renaming of the object. The name “Odissi,” as applied to particular kinds of music, is not transhistorical but only makes sense within a particular historically-constructed system of conceiving the performing arts in Odisha and India. The name both draws and confers authority from its suitability for and its situatability within this system.
