I have fond memories of watching the young and ebullient @RajatKar_Odisha speaking at #BhanjaJayanti on several occasions in the sixties. Many of his contemporaries got influenced by Sri Aurobindo but somehow he stuck to his original love even to this day.

Sure and that's a great journey indeed but despite all your effort and enthusiasm, it hasn't paid off adequately. I mean, though great, Bhanja has been difficult to understand for people and remained distant. The same can be said about most repertoire of Odissi music as a whole.

Exactly. Kavichandra, Sinhari, Balakrushna Dash...All had significant interactions with Hindustani. In turn, he and other Ganjam singers were 'accused' of being influenced by Carnatic. Both the accusations were 10-20% true but for an argument, people exaggerate.

I say true because for language, music and culture it is impossible not to remain isolated from each other completely. That is true for Hindustani and Carnatic as well.
Good point. Many of the newer compositions, songs of Balakrushna Dash written by Kavichandra are hybrid. Many refuse to call it Odissi, just as Khyal singers dub thumri as light classical. Start with the popular, Bitilata jamini...and observe the impact
That is there in Hindustani too. Same is true in language too. 

As far as classical status is concerned, only the basis of deciding that will be technical. Advantages that will accrue are mostly material: promotion, learning/teaching, more people outside getting interested etc

No idea... for the same movie... they had records on multiple labels... for example ... Akshaya Mohanty songs are on Senola... while others are on HMV... many movies were exclusively on Hindustan... Senola...anyway they don’t have in their digital streaming formats... expect few
