Barbara Stoler's 'Love Song of the Dark Lord' is famous, but I haven't read it end to end. One book I would recommend is the translation by Kabichandra Kalicharan Patnaik (1899-1978). The Odisha State Museum palm leaf manuscript illustrated by Dhananjaya is a must. 1/2

Dr. Dinanath Pathy (1942-2016) eminent art historian compiled a book which provides a very holistic picture of Gitagovinda in Odisha's traditions across music, dance, sculpture, etc. At the end is a translation by Mahamedhananda Saraswati. Must read. 2/2 https://t.co/z2aQ2sF9JM
As an add on I would recommend the Gitagovinda edition published in the Orissa Oriental Text Series by Dept of Culture, Odisha. It has the wonderful Sarvanga-Sundari Tika of Kaviraja Narayana Dasa (one of the earliest tikas) and Śrutiranjani Tikā of Pandita Lakshmana Surī.
Google Drive folder with Kabichandra's translation and OOTS editions since they can be hard to get : https://t.co/NJQobkby6j
OSM palm leaf manuscript edition with illustrations + tika by Dhananjaya : https://t.co/wUyYkAup9j
🙏😊
I wish I could share with you the old Odia translations and tikas. There are many from 16c onwards. A 17c Odia prose tika by Pandita Jagannatha Misra is my all-time favourite.
I would agree. While it is a very ornate translation, a very good one at that. Perhaps I was expecting a bit too much.
